Redmond City Hall is a "jewel box" sitting on the south edge of
the city's campus. This four-story, 107,212 square foot building
features a two-story lobby with 25-foot windows and a prominent
staircase to the second floor lobby. A gas fireplace, slate
flooring, walls of granite, limestone, copper and wood paneling,
plus a well landscaped deck with dramatic views of the Sammamish
River, invite occupants and guests to linger and enjoy the
space.
The exterior features the warmth and richness of limestone and
granite. Transparent walls reinforce the connection to the
environment and the transparency of governmental process. A soaring
canopy at the main entrance is supported by slender columns
inspired by Northwest forests. The council chambers, at the
northeast corner, are clad in coppery-smooth metal panels, giving
way to windows. A shallow reflecting pool mirrors the chambers on
three sides.
The building consolidated employees from several buildings
scattered across Redmond. A new four-story garage and surface lot
provides parking for 492 vehicles.
In 2006, the National Association of Industrial and Office
Properties (NAIOP) named Redmond City Hall the Public Project of
the Year. Redmond City Hall received LEED Silver certification from
the U.S. Green Building Council in May 2010.
